Saskatchewan Recognizes Women Making History
CANADA, October 29 - Released on October 29, 2026
As Women's History Month comes to a close, the Government of Saskatchewan is recognizing the generations of women whose leadership, determination and achievements have helped shape the province, while celebrating the women and girls who continue to build its future.
"Women have played an essential role in building the Saskatchewan we know today, and their leadership continues to move our province forward," Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Alana Ross said. "During Women's History Month, we honour the women who helped build Saskatchewan, celebrate the women leading it today and encourage the girls and young women who will shape our province in the future."
Across Saskatchewan's history, women have helped build industries, institutions and communities. They have educated generations, advanced health care and science, strengthened rural and urban communities, built businesses and stepped forward to serve in public office.
Among them were Sarah Ramsland, Saskatchewan's first woman Member of the Legislative Assembly, and Sylvia Fedoruk, who distinguished herself through her contributions to science and public service.
Their legacy is not simply that they were first. Every door they opened made it easier for the next generation of women to walk through.
Today, Saskatchewan women continue to make history through the businesses they build, the people they employ, the communities they strengthen and the leadership they provide.
Women own businesses in communities throughout the province, creating jobs, introducing new products and services, supporting local suppliers and mentoring the next generation. Approximately 21 per cent of Saskatchewan's private-sector businesses are majority owned by women.
"Women are contributing to every part of Saskatchewan's economic and community life," Ross said. "Their courage, creativity and confidence in our province's future are creating new opportunities today and showing the next generation what is possible."
Women's History Month provides an opportunity to learn more about the women whose contributions have strengthened Saskatchewan and to recognize those continuing that work today.
The Government of Saskatchewan encourages residents to celebrate the women who have made a difference in their lives and communities, and to celebrate the women and girls who are making history across the province.
